The Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden on Catalina Island has an amazing collection of cacti from around the world. I have painted Opuntia, the prickly pear, several times in the past, but I couldn’t resist its larger cousin, the cactus tree. It had a snarled trunk, and its pads were arranged in a kaleidoscope of shapes and colors.
